The Artist

Life is a series of moments and time is the name we give to the chain that binds them. For my part, I capture these moments and paint them with light and lenses. My work is in freezing memories; preserving the emotions and thoughts that make them meaningful and telling the stories behind the special moments in our lives through images.

This is how I have been spending the last twenty years of my time on earth. As a Sri Lankan-born, London-based photographer, I have had the privilege to apply my craft in a host of fields and a myriad of countries. From visiting some of the most stunning places on earth at the behest of tourist departments to shooting the sublime residencies of pristine hotels and capturing the magic of a couple’s most extraordinary day; I have been able to share my passion across a diverse array of areas.

About Me

My childhood felt like a fairytale.

My sister and I grew up sharing a large room in a two-bedroom apartment in one of Colombo's more elegant neighbourhoods in Sri Lanka. Looking back, I realise the greatest gift my parents gave us wasn't a place to live—it was the freedom to imagine. In their world, anything seemed possible.

Every night my mother read me stories before I fell asleep. They were stories of distant lands, extraordinary people and ancient cultures unlike my own. I travelled through magical sunsets, wandered among tribes with painted faces, climbed forgotten mountain kingdoms, followed the adventures of Tintin, and watched Robin Hood rescue Maid Marian.

I felt completely captivated.

Long after the lights were turned off, those stories continued in my dreams. I became the explorer, climbing impossible mountains, escaping wild animals and setting off on my own little Indiana Jones adventures. I would tell my mother that one day I would visit all these places and bring their stories home.

She would simply smile.

"Of course you will."

In 1260, Marco Polo set out in search of China.

Centuries later, when I was seven, my father handed me a few coins and gave me permission to ride my bicycle alone to the neighbourhood shop. People often say there comes a day in every boy's life when he first crosses the road by himself and takes his first steps towards independence.

That summer, I joined the ranks of explorers too.

Not long afterwards, my father placed a camera in my hands.

Before I had even finished my first roll of film, I knew something had changed forever. The world suddenly became larger, richer and infinitely more fascinating. Photography wasn't simply about taking pictures; it became my passport to curiosity.

From that day on, I was always looking beyond the next hill, the next street and the next horizon.

Then life happened.

At eighteen, I moved overseas, studied information technology and became an IT engineer. My father was delighted.

Servers needed updating. Routers needed configuring. There were mortgages, meetings, coffee shops, deadlines and routines.

Life was comfortable, predictable and successful.

But the places I had dreamed about as a little boy never stopped calling.

Life has a remarkable way of drawing us back to the things we truly love.

Today, I simply follow the light.

It has taken me to some of the world's most remote landscapes and introduced me to people whose lives, traditions and stories have profoundly changed the way I see the world.

Every journey teaches me something new—not only about the places I visit but also about myself. I've learnt not to fear the unknown but to welcome it. The greatest adventures rarely begin with certainty.

They begin with curiosity.

The photographs themselves feel like gifts.

The camera is simply a tool. The lens is merely another way of seeing.

What matters are the people who welcome me into their lives, the landscapes that leave me speechless, and the fleeting moments that can never be repeated.

I hope that my photographs do more than document a place. I hope they invite you to slow down, to wonder, and perhaps to see the world a little differently.

After all these years, I realise I am still that little boy lying in bed, listening to stories of distant lands and impossible adventures.

The only difference is that now, I have the privilege of living them.

Every journey is, in some small way, a journey home—to the dreams that first inspired it.
