Silhouettes in the Spray

The sound of Iguaçu Falls reaches you long before the water comes into view. Standing on the Brazilian side, I watched curtains of white water plunge into the gorge below while clouds of mist drifted skyward in the morning light.

Along the walkways, visitors stopped to take photographs, point towards distant rainbows and simply stand in silence before the spectacle unfolding around them. 

Against the vast scale of the falls, people appeared as small silhouettes moving through the spray—strangers from different parts of the world brought together for a few moments by the same view. While the water thundered endlessly below, the crowd came and went, each person carrying away their own memory of Iguaçu.
