MOMENTS
The Streets of Colonia
As evening settled over Colonia del Sacramento, the last of the cruise ship visitors drifted back towards the harbour, leaving the old quarter to the fading light and a handful of lingering wanderers.
The narrow streets grew quiet. Sodium lamps cast a warm glow across worn cobblestones polished by generations of passing feet. Somewhere nearby, the scent of bougainvillaea mixed with the cool air drifting in from the Río de la Plata.
I walked without purpose, letting the empty streets guide me. With the crowds gone, the city revealed a different side of itself — quieter, slower, and far removed from the bustle of the day.
For a while, it felt as though Colonia belonged only to us, those willing to stay a little longer.
